Update - March 30th, 2020
Hi everyone! I hope that you have had a restful Spring Break! Since schools will continue to be closed, we will be transitioning to using D2L (Brightspace) as an online learning platform. Like our weebly, D2L will allow us to post PPTs and videos. Using D2L going forward will also allow us to create quizzes, discussion boards, and assignment submissions!
Here is the link to D2L - https://d2l.cbe.ab.ca/d2l/loginh/
Below you will find a couple of videos to help you become familiar with how to login, how to navigate our Grade 6 D2L page, and how to submit assignments.

How to digitize a handwritten project
If you are able to, download "Genius Scan" on to your phone. This is THE BEST app that I have even downloaded to my phone and it's FREE! Once you have downloaded Genius Scan, you will be able to take photos of your handwritten work and convert them into PDFs which you can email to yourself or airdrop and then upload onto D2L. Watch the video to the right of this blurb to see how Genius Scan works.
If you are unable to download Genius Scan on to your phone, you can also send me pictures of your assignment or use a scanner. |

As we navigate school closures, I will be posting updates as to what students can be working on at home. Please note that Mme Anna and I will be transitioning to using D2L as our new online learning platform. Students will need to logon to D2L using their login credentials. Parents are unable to login to D2L. On this page (below), I will continue to post a tentative weekly plan for parents to have easy access to what their students will be working on. I will also be posting the weekly expectations for FLA/ELA on D2L for students to see. Students - please feel free to work through materials at your own pace over the course of the week.
The Government of Alberta has outlined the following expectations for continued learning :
Grades 4 to 6
Education content will continue to focus on language/literacy and mathematics/numeracy outcomes. There will also be opportunities to incorporate science and social studies outcomes through cross-curricular learning.
Teachers will assign an average of 5 hours of work per student per week and must work with students and parents to deliver these materials. (https://www.alberta.ca/student-learning-during-covid-19.aspx)
Should you have any questions or concerns please feel free to email me ([email protected]) at anytime!
If at home, you would like your child to maintain some routines that we had in the classroom prior to school closures :
FLA
- Daily - journal de gratitude
- Café Français for about 45 min/day each week, students completed the following tasks (one a day) : écriture, lecture silencieuse, journal de lecture, conférence (ask your child to select and read an excerpt from the book they are reading, have them explain why they chose this excerpt)
ELA
- Mondays and Wednesdays, students silent read for ~20 minutes
- Tuesdays and Thursdays, students would free write based on a visual writing prompt for ~20 minutes
For extra practice, the "Social Studies" and "FLA/ELA" pages still have materials that students can be working through as review! ** I will slowly transfer this information to D2L so that students will only need to access one learning platform for all learning materials (present and past) covered over the course of the year. **
